Groucho the Singing Parrot!

So, we’ve all heard birds chirp and parrots talk, but have you ever heard a parrot sing in English? We’ve found a very talented parrot who has learned to do just that. Have a watch of this video to hear this bird’s wonderful warbling!

We humans talk and sing using our voice boxes (made up of a larynx with vocal chords that vibrate). Instead of this, birds have a syrinx. In the wall of the syrinx are two thin, oval membranes that vibrate and produce the bird’s whistles, tweets and chirps. Parrots copy sounds they hear to communicate with us, so this one must have a very musical companion!
