Bellatrix the beatboxing Queen
I’ve just got back from a week at Edinburgh Festival, if you don’t know what it is, it’s a month long festival celebrating all the different art forms in one city. You get music, dance, theatre, comedy, literature, street theatre and everything else in between. If you’ve never been before I definitely suggest you go! Anyway, whilst I was up there I saw SO many cool things that would take me a whole week to explain how awesome they were, but this girl in particular jumped out at me. I went to see this great band called Tongue Fu that my friend used to play in, and they had this amazing girl bass player. Now she was pretty awesome at playing the bass, but she was double awesome beatboxing.
In case you don’t know what beatboxing is, it’s basically making the sound of a drum kit with your mouth and originated in New York in the 1980’s.
If you’re interested in having a go I can show you the basics, or have a look on You Tube for some great free tutorials.
Here’s some footage I took of her on my phone at the gig, oh and she’s called Bellatrix; give her a google…
and here she is chatting on the BBC about what she does. Let me know if you give it a go and how you get on!
