Becky Dell - Director

Becky teaches piano, singing and theory at her academy as well as being the founder and director of BDMA.

Classically trained as a percussionist at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music, Becky graduated straight into a role in the famous West End show STOMP! and worked as a free-lance professional musician before deciding to set up BDMA in 2012.

In her spare time, Becky acts as Musical Director for the successful Citizens of the World Choir, a choir of refugees and friends based in South East London. She was also nominated for and won an Amnesty International  Suffragette Sister Award, for her humanitarian campaigning and was named one of the Top 100 Female Entrepreneurs in the UK.

Meg Brookes - Blackheath Academy Manager

Meg teaches piano, singing, cello and songwriting at BDMA. She is also the manager of the Blackheath Academy.

Outside of BDMA Meg works as a professional musician, performing with artists including Laura Mvula, Charlotte Church, Marc Almond, Orlando Weeks (of the Maccabees) and many more on some of the UK's biggest stages as well as live on national TV (BBC, The One Show) and radio (BBC Radio 1, BBC London, Virgin).

Meg also works as a composer and songwriter. She has sung her own song with a 60 piece choir (London Contemporary Voices) at Queen Elizabeth Hall and has even ended up in a circus at the Roundhouse, which involved playing a flying piano!

In addition to her work at BDMA, Louise has established herself as one of the most exciting new jazz singers on the London music scene. Louise directs a number of projects, including her own New Orleans second line band, the Old Jelly Rollers, and her namesake quintet, the Louise Balkwill Group, and is regularly featured with the Old Fountain Jazz Orchestra both as a singer and an arranger. She has appeared on world renowned stages from London to New York, including Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club, 606 Club, Pizza Express Dean Street and Smalls Jazz Club to name a few.

Louise is hailed as one of the UK's top authorities on New Orleans music and culture, and makes regular stateside appearances with some of America's most celebrated musicians including Leroy Jones and Kermit Ruffins.

Jess Tomlinson - Manager and SAFEGUARDING OFFICER

Alongside her work at BDMA, Jess has an active freelance career as a clarinettist and saxophonist, performing with orchestras and pit bands nationwide and in Europe. Most recently, she has performed for the Thursford Musical Spectacular and has been guest principle clarinet for the Jersey Symphony Orchestra. 

Jess is a Live Music Now artist with her award-winning quintet Chameleon, with whom she enjoys a busy performance schedule. She is passionate about music-for-health-and-well-being and works with Lime: Music for Health, bringing music to the wards of Royal Manchester Children's Hospital. She has recently begun her own research in this field and is looking forward to exploring this area further. 

Adrian Steele

We are proud to have a professional relationship with Adrian who has more than 30 years' experience tuning pianos. His rate is approximately £70 per tune.
