Tibetan bowl sound therapy
I’ve recently had some sound therapy with my friend Mark and it’s been one of the best things ever.
What is sound therapy I hear you ask?! Good question! Basically you lie down and the lovely Mark plays Tibetan bowls very gently around you whilst you relax. There’s more details of what goes on during a session further down this blog, but let me tell you, it’s one of the most relaxing things I’ve ever done in my life. In fact I would go so far as to say the first session I had was the most relaxed I’d ever been. Ever. Now that’s a bold claim!
ABOUT THE THERAPIST
Mark’s journey with sound began many years ago with a drum kit his father gave him. His love then turned to the guitar and he has been a pro musician and Guitar Teacher ever since with his roots firmly planted in rock, jazz & blues.
His travels took him to Southern Spain where the influence of a family member introduced him to Reiki healing and crystals. But it was a fellow musician & Reiki Master Carlos Navas, who always finished his sessions with a singing bowl, that led Mark to discover the wonderful healing sounds of Tibetan Singing Bowls.
He studied Sound Therapy at The Nerja Institute of Reiki in 2009 and has been giving treatments since then.
He is now living in London, having studied Sound Therapy with Lesley Carol of The Atlantis College of Chrystal Reiki & Sound Therapy.
The concept of sound as a medium which can transport the human spirit to a different state of consciousness is as old as mankind itself.
Many of the sounds we consider sacred or healing on the planet are rich in high frequency sounds, called harmonics or overtones.
Sound has been used as a powerful and effective tool for improving health and well-being for thousands of years. Sound Healing is the therapeutic application of sound frequencies to the body and mind of a person with the intention of bringing them into a state of harmony and health.
The energy flow in your body can be affected by such factors as poor diet, stress, relationships, lifestyle and our environment which bombard the body with disorganised energy build up. Sound Therapy is about bringing your body back into harmony with itself and its surroundings.
The Sound of the bowls is entrancing and many people experience profound therapeutic and transformational effects simply by listening to them. By the playing of the bowls around or directly on the body the vibrations give the body a massage on a cellular level.
The subtle energy centres (Chakras) and even the auric field of a person benefit from these musical sounds, helping release blockages and to realign and restore the natural flow and normal healthy frequency within and around the body.
In addition, sound draws on the time-tested methods of ancient mystics to heighten consciousness and enable us to revitalise our connection with the universe.
Tibetan Singing Bowls can be used for:
Improved health and well-being
In general, the treatment helps to improve your own natural flow of energy and bring back the body’s natural resonance to support well-being.
WHAT HAPPENS IN A TREATMENT
A treatment can be in a Group session or on a one to one basis.
In a group session the clients can sit or lie down on a yoga mat while the bowls are played by the therapist. This is a great way to meditate and is a proven way to reduce stress and bring about deep relaxation as the sound washes over you. A perfect antidote to a busy lifestyle!
In a one to one session the client again can either sit or lie down (usually on a treatment table) with the bowls placed on and around the body. This gives a deeper and more intense treatment. The Client feels a part of the sound and the vibrations affect the physical and subtle body. You can switch off from day to day stress and worries and you reach a deep relaxation while the sounds and vibrations of the Bowls massage the body on a cellular level. You are left both relaxed and revitalized.
